Do you have rusty French, maybe GCSE-level?

If you love the French language and culture and want to chat in French about matters of mutual interest, usually topical and often relating to France, do get in touch.

Intermediate French 2 developed in Autumn 2019 when the long-established Intermediate French 1 was too full to cope with the demand. We meet on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month in the King's Head, 1 The Green, Winchmore Hill N21 1BB from 2.15 to approx. 3.30pm. You can come along for a session to see whether you like it or not.

These photos were taken recently in the lovely garden of Jill Stedman, the Chief Convenor of the three existing French Groups - French Intermediate 1 and 2 and Advanced French. The Beginners Group is still trying to get off the ground but urgently needs a convenor. Jill invites all the groups to lunch in summer to her home in Phipps Potts Lane bordering on Hilly Fields. We enjoy a buffet of quiches, galettes, salads, cheeses and a variety of delicious desserts. It is an occasion we look forward to.

I like to concentrate on vocabulary, which is constantly developing and changing, and pronunciation. We also use the textbook, Façon de Parler 2, and we have recently started reading extracts from books such as 'No et Moi' by Delphine de Vigan (the story of a teenage schoolgirl and her troubled relationship with an older homeless girl).

We are currently reading 'Oscar et la Dame Rose' by Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt. this is about a boy of ten years old who is being treated in hospital for cancer. He writes letters to God and makes friends with a very old volunteer who used to be a female wrestler.
